Mission Statement

To promote the game of football and its contribution to society as a whole.  This is accomplished by recognizing and honoring those individuals in our State who have excelled and brought distinction to our cities, towns, and the State of Rhode Island.

Each year our Chapter has 2 significant events:

1.  Annual Awards Banquet

This is usually held in May and attended by an average of 400 people.  Our scholar-athletes are recognized at this banquet.  We also honor our special award selectees:  The Distinguished American, Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football, and an award to an Outstanding Football Official.

2.  Annual Golf Tournament

This is held in July and is our main source of revenue.  We average approximately 100 golfers per tournament.

Our History

The Rhode Island Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame was organized and begun in 1988.  The Chapter has honored those boys who have excelled not only on the football field but in the classroom as well.  In the past 33 years we have honored over 929 scholar-athlete football players.  Each year 2 boys are selected from this elite group of student-athletes and presented with a $1,000 scholarship.  To date we have awarded over $147,000 in scholarship aid.

The Rhode Island Chapter is one of 120 Chapters throughout the country.  We strive to promote the ideals of sportsmanship, competition, and citizenship.

Our Purpose

To recognize and honor those individuals in the community/state who best exemplify the following characteristics:

1.  Outstanding academic performance and application in a college preparatory program.

2.  Superior football performance.

3.  Exemplary school leadership and citizenship.
